Braking Point - Passenger and Driver Education
Our 4th annual Autumn Road Safety Project will be starting in October 2019, supported by the Suffolk Roadsafe Board and funded by the DORG board.
Working with passengers, pre-, and new drivers, the Road Safety Team and Performance in Education deliver the play "Braking Point" to a whole year group, and then follow it up with classroom sessions for as many students as we can.
Mainly working with 16 and 17 year old students, the aim of the project is to reenforce the good passenger and driver behaviour that is "the norm" for the vast majority of young people and, through discussion and sharing of information, to help them develop strategies to keep themselves and their friends safe.
Whilst we prioritise the areas of Suffolk that record higher colision and casualty statistics, we try to reach a wider audience - in both the delivery itself, and by encouraging the students to become advocates of positive behaviour.
We believe that positive and constructive messages are far better for long-term risk management than "shock and awe" tactics.
The project has been evaluated twice - in year 1 and in year 3 - to ensure that we are developing the project in a way that meets the needs of students, and are having a positive effect on attitudes and behaviour.
We are currently in the process of contacting schools, but feel free to contact us if you would like further information.
